IBMA urges faster EU access to biocontrol solutions

The International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA) is calling for faster regulatory access to biocontrol solutions within the European Union. The organization warns that current legislative proposals could exclude approximately 58% of the 180 biocontrol active substances currently authorized in the EU.

IBMA argues that limiting regulatory acceleration to substances classified specifically as ‘low risk’ may dilute the original intent of the European Commission’s agricultural reforms. The association emphasizes that farmers face increasing pressure from new pests, resistance, and climate change, necessitating a wider range of tools including microorganisms, pheromones, and plant extracts.
