Ibom Air takes delivery of third Airbus A220-300
Ibom Air, a Nigerian airline owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The aircraft, registered as 5N-CDC, was formally handed over at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada.
This delivery brings Ibom Air’s total fleet to 10 aircraft, which includes seven Mitsubishi Heavy Industries CRJ900 regional jets and three Airbus A220-300s. The expansion is part of a modernization program following a firm order for 10 A220-300 aircraft placed at the 2021 Dubai Airshow.
George Uriesi, Managing Director and CEO of Ibom Air, stated that the new aircraft will improve operational efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility as the airline seeks to expand its network within Nigeria and West Africa. Guillaume Chevasson, CEO of Airbus Canada, noted that the A220's fuel efficiency and performance make it suitable for the airline's regional operations.
