Overview

Ibom Air, a Nigerian airline owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, has progressed with its fleet modernization strategy through the acquisition of Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

In mid-August 2026, a delegation led by Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno conducted a pre-delivery inspection of the airline’s third Airbus A220-300 at the Airbus production facility in Mirabel, Canada. By late August 2026, the airline officially took delivery of the aircraft, registered as 5N-CDC, at the Airbus final assembly facility.

This delivery brings Ibom Air’s total fleet to 10 aircraft, consisting of seven Mitsubishi Heavy Industries CRJ900 regional jets and three Airbus A220-300s. The expansion follows a 2021 order for 10 A220-300 aircraft and is intended to improve operational efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility as the airline expands its network.

Governor Umo Eno noted that the airline has safely transported nearly 5 million passengers across more than 65,000 scheduled flights, contributing over N60 billion to the local economy and supporting approximately 753 full-time employees. The fleet expansion supports the carrier's goal of increasing its network from eight to 12 destinations, including new regional routes to Douala, Cameroon; Libreville, Gabon; and Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
