Jornal Nacional records historic low audience rating in São Paulo
The Brazilian news program Jornal Nacional recorded a preliminary audience rating of 11 points in Greater São Paulo on Saturday (September 5), marking a significant decline for the broadcast.
This figure represents an 18.3% share of the viewing audience in the region and is approximately 44% lower than the average recorded over the previous four Saturdays. If these preliminary Ibope numbers are confirmed, it would constitute the lowest audience rating in the program’s 57-year history.
In the same time slot, streaming platforms led the market with 20.35 points, surpassing the traditional news broadcast. Other broadcasters included Record with 4.02 points and SBT with 3.04 points, while pay TV accounted for 4.43 points.
The unexpected results have led industry executives and competitors to question the accuracy of the Ibope measurement system. Some professionals suggest the audio-based identification method may be outdated or experienced technical issues during the electoral period, while others point to the growing dominance of streaming services.
