Ibrahim Idris, former Kogi State Governor, laid to rest in Abuja
Former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, popularly known as ‘Ibro’, has been laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja following Islamic funeral rites. Idris passed away in the United Kingdom at the age of 77 on September 20, 2026.
The funeral ceremony drew a significant gathering of political leaders, including current Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and former governors Captain Idris Ichalla Wada and Yahaya Adoza Bello. Governor Ododo, serving as the chief mourner, described Idris as a leader whose administration contributed significantly to the infrastructure, education, and healthcare sectors of Kogi State.
Tributes from religious and political figures highlighted Idris’s legacy as a unifying leader and mentor. Bishop John Ibenu described him as a ‘father figure to civil servants’ and a visionary who governed without discrimination. Additionally, House of Representatives member Paul Gowon Haruna paid condolences to the family, characterizing the late former governor as a political mentor who left an indelible mark on the state’s history.
