Kwankwaso urges Atiku to step down as Kano leaders condemn critic's murder

In Nigerian political developments, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has publicly urged former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. Speaking to the Fulani Farmers Association in Abuja, Kwankwaso cited Atiku’s age and health as reasons for him to focus on his traditional role as the Wazirin of Adamawa, promising that he and Peter Obi would “take good care of him” if they win.

Separately, political figures in Kano State are reacting to the murder of Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, a prominent social media political commentator. Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked and killed inside his residence in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the NDC governorship candidate for Kano, and Ibrahim Al-Amin Little, an ADC candidate, have both condemned the killing. Gwarzo described the murder as “heinous, barbaric and totally condemnable,” calling for a thorough investigation to protect digital voices. The Kano State Police Command has reportedly arrested two suspects in connection with the death.
