Ghana Football Association recommends Carlos Queiroz stay as Black Stars coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council has unanimously recommended that Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz remain as the head coach of the Black Stars following his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. While the GFA has reached this decision, any new contract requires final approval from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, which is responsible for financing the coach's salary.

Concurrently, Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his readiness to lead the national team if considered the right candidate by the GFA. Tanko, who has previous experience as an assistant coach for the Black Stars and head coach of the Black Meteors, is among several potential contenders for the position. The search for coaching stability comes as Ghana prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, following the team's failure to qualify for the 2025 tournament.
