Turkey announces new livestock subsidies and fee waivers

Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı announced several new support measures for the livestock and agricultural sectors during visits to Erzurum and Erzincan. A major highlight is the removal of animal vaccination and identification fees for breeders, supported by an approximately 6 billion lira fund. This initiative aims to reduce costs for producers without deducting from other existing supports.

Yumaklı emphasized that the ministry has provided 654 billion lira in livestock support over the last 24 years, focusing on efficiency, quality, and sustainability rather than just increasing animal numbers. The ministry is also implementing a new three-year production planning model to provide stability for family businesses, young entrepreneurs, and women. In Erzurum, specific incentives include a 50 percent increase in calf support, a 40 percent increase in raw milk premiums, and a 20 percent additional interest discount on Ziraat Bank agricultural loans.

Additionally, the Minister discussed the strategic importance of food security and greenhouse production, noting that Turkey ranks fourth globally and second in Europe in greenhouse farming. Regarding regional development, a new action plan for Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia is being prepared to boost agricultural investment and employment, aiming to encourage young people to remain in their home regions through improved infrastructure and modern facilities.
