Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı has linked the achievement of lasting peace to agricultural self-sufficiency. To support this, the Ministry announced a comprehensive agricultural action plan for the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions. Planned investments include irrigation improvements, ponds, Organized Agricultural Zones, and cold storage facilities. To assist producers, the Ministry has updated support amounts, providing an additional 30 billion lira. The plan seeks to retain rural populations and curb youth migration to cities, utilizing technical studies and regional workshops conducted in Diyarbakır and Erzurum to finalize budgets and investment schedules.

During recent visits to Erzurum and Erzincan, Yumaklı introduced specific livestock sector measures, including the removal of animal vaccination and identification fees for breeders, supported by an approximately 6 billion lira fund. He noted that the government has provided approximately 654 billion lira in livestock support over the last 24 years. To increase efficiency, a new three-year production planning model is being implemented to provide stability for family businesses, women, and young entrepreneurs. In Erzurum, specific incentives were announced, including a 50 percent increase in calf support, a 40 percent increase in raw milk premiums, and a 20 percent additional interest discount on Ziraat Bank agricultural loans. Yumaklı also emphasized Turkey’s global standing in greenhouse production, ranking fourth globally and second in Europe, framing food security as a matter of national security.
