Ibu Kota Nusantara development advances with international visits and legislative complex construction
Development in Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), is progressing through both international technical exchanges and major infrastructure construction. A delegation of 42 representatives from the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA), hailing from eight countries including Japan, Australia, and South Korea, visited the Central Government Core Area to observe construction progress and discuss connectivity and geotechnical challenges.
Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, noted that the capital has entered its second development phase (2025–2029), aiming for completion as a government center by 2028. The delegation focused on the city’s design as a forest, sponge, and smart city, addressing issues such as soil management, rainfall, and slope stability.
Simultaneously, construction is underway for the Legislative and Judicial Complex in Penajam Paser Utara. This integrated area will house the plenary building, the DPR, DPD, MPR, Supreme Court, and the Justice Plaza, with a capacity for up to 1,579 people. As of October 6, 2026, the project has reached 16 percent completion and is scheduled to be finished by 2028.
