Ibu Kota Nusantara capital development

Overview

Development of Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), has transitioned into its second phase (2025–2029), with a target to serve as a government center by 2028.

Initial efforts focused on establishing essential infrastructure, including roads, water, electricity, and office facilities. While 20 office towers have been prepared for approximately 15,000 civil servants, current occupancy stands at roughly 1,800 personnel. High-level state officials, including members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), have conducted inspections of the Legislative Area to monitor progress.

Recent developments include international technical engagement, such as a visit from a delegation of 42 representatives from the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) to discuss geotechnical challenges and connectivity. Additionally, construction is underway for the Legislative and Judicial Complex in Penajam Paser Utara. This integrated site, intended to house the DPR, DPD, MPR, and the Supreme Court, reached 16 percent completion as of early October 2026.
