ICCT reports surge in European zero‑emission truck registrations and seeks to expand TCO calculator worldwide

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) reports that more than 6,300 new electric trucks were registered in Europe in the first quarter of 2026, a 41 % increase over the same period in 2025. Heavy‑duty trucks (over 12 t) saw their zero‑emission market share rise from 1.4 % to 2.3 %, while medium‑duty trucks and vans reached a 19.7 % share. Mercedes led heavy‑truck sales with 530 units, followed by MAN and DAF, and high registration shares were recorded in the Netherlands (10.3 %), Sweden (9.7 %), Denmark (10 %) and France, which announced subsidies of €60,000‑€110,000 for electric trucks.

At the same time, ICCT issued a Request for Proposals to expand its web‑based Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculator for heavy‑duty zero‑emission vehicles to six additional regions – the European Union, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Brazil and India. The project will adapt the tool’s language, currency, units and default inputs to each market, offering stakeholders a localized platform to compare diesel and electric truck costs. The expansion includes beta testing, regional review checkpoints and post‑launch support, aiming to accelerate global adoption of zero‑emission heavy‑duty trucks.
