ICE accessed over 100 million voter registration records

Internal documents obtained via Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests by the organization Democracy Forward reveal that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) accessed more than 100 million voter registration records. The agency used this data to identify potential non-citizen voters and other alleged electoral irregularities.

The data was acquired through multiple channels: 50.6 million records were provided by the Department of Justice, including unredacted lists from over a dozen Republican-led states, and 48.4 million records were gathered by Heather Honey, a senior advisor to the Director of ICE and the Secretary of Homeland Security. These lists included public voter data from states such as California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Nevada.

By cross-referencing these records with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) files, ICE generated over 1,500 investigative leads distributed to regional offices. Skye Perryman, president and CEO of Democracy Forward, stated that the revealed information constitutes “an alarming attempt by the executive power to undermine our elections.”
