ICE conducts immigration raids in Auburn and Renton, Washington

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents carried out an immigration enforcement operation on July 26, 2026 in the Washington cities of Auburn and Renton. Local police departments were not involved or notified in advance. Auburn Police Department Assistant Chief Samuel Betz said the department does not participate in civil immigration enforcement, citing the state’s Keep Washington Working (KWW) Act that limits local involvement. In Renton, police chief Jon Schuldt confirmed that an individual was taken into custody by ICE outside Renton City Hall at about 11:40 a.m., and that the department had no prior knowledge of the operation. It remains unclear whether any arrests were made in Auburn. Both departments emphasized their commitment to serve all community members with fairness and respect regardless of immigration status.
