ICE field agents expected to have body cameras by late September
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field agents are expected to be equipped with body cameras by the end of September. Speaking at a press conference in New York, Mullin indicated that the administration is nearing the completion of the rollout.
ICE has previously stated that the agency has acquired the necessary devices and that training for individual officers is currently ongoing. While an earlier target for full deployment was the end of August, the timeline has shifted to late September.
The initiative has received bipartisan support, including from White House border czar Tom Homan, who emphasized the importance of transparency in officer decision-making. The Department of Homeland Security is also collaborating with Motorola to explore integrating camera technology into the microphones already used by agents.
