ICE killings trigger nationwide protests and vigils across the United States

On July 25, 2026 more than 330 communities across the United States gathered for vigils, protests and demonstrations demanding justice for immigrants killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The movement centres on the recent deaths of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, shot by an ICE agent in Houston on July 7, and Johan Sebastián Guerrero, killed in Maine on July 13, as well as a growing tally of ICE‑related fatalities – 33 detainee deaths in fiscal year 2026, the highest in two decades, and 53 deaths since the Trump administration began.

Rallies were held in Tampa, Florida; Greenwich, Connecticut; and numerous other cities, drawing support from local officials such as Rep. Jim Himes and state legislators. Organizers call for immediate release of key witnesses, independent investigations, an end to local cooperation with ICE, and broader immigration reform termed “legalization for all.” They also urge corporations to refuse cooperation with ICE operations. The protests underscore widespread demand for transparency, accountability, and policy change regarding federal immigration enforcement.
