Iconavetere restoration: Foggia seeks funds for artwork's return

The Sacro Tavolo dell’Iconavetere, a historic religious image central to the identity of Foggia, is currently undergoing restoration at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence. Specialists are working to clean the image and restore the wooden panel, addressing conservation issues caused by age.

The Archdiocese of Foggia-Bovino has issued an appeal to the community to help fund the logistics of the artwork's return. These requested funds are not for the restoration itself, but for the necessary expenses to ensure the safe transport from Florence to Foggia and to establish the proper environmental conditions for its long-term preservation once it is returned to the Cathedral.
