Restoration of Italian religious artworks

Overview

Religious artworks across various Italian regions are undergoing restoration and subsequent unveiling.

In Foggia, the Sacro Tavolo dell’Iconavetere is being cleaned and its wooden panel restored at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence. The Archdiocese of Foggia-Bovino has requested community funding to cover the logistics of transporting the piece back to the Foggia Cathedral and ensuring its long-term preservation.

Other restoration projects are reaching completion in Avella and Acerenza. In Avella, the 1821 painting ‘Vergine in gloria e Santi’ by Odoardo Fischetti is scheduled for presentation at the Church of Santa Marina. In Acerenza, a 17th-century polychrome wooden sculpture of the ‘Cristo Crocifisso’ will be unveiled at the Acerenza Cathedral, following technical investigations and conservation efforts organized by the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for Basilicata.
