ICT sector in Spain attracts high levels of young talent
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in Spain is increasingly becoming a primary hub for young talent. According to a TIC Monitor report by Fundación VASS and the Centro de Predicciones Económicas, approximately 23% of the ICT workforce is under the age of 30. This represents 186,000 professionals aged 20 to 29, which is nine percentage points higher than the 14% average for the broader Spanish economy.
Additionally, workers aged 30 to 39 account for 34% of ICT employment, exceeding the national average of 25%. Antonio Rueda, director of Fundación VASS, noted that the sector attracts young people by offering qualified, well-remunerated positions with strong career prospects.
Despite this trend, challenges remain regarding the transition from education to the first job, which often requires practical experience. Furthermore, while 67.9% of surveyed companies view hiring young technical talent as essential, there is a growing demand for human skills that complement technical knowledge, especially as artificial intelligence reshapes the industry.
