id Software announces free Slaughter Mode for DOOM: The Dark Ages
id Software has announced a free update for the DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC, Revelations, scheduled for release in November. The update will introduce Slaughter Mode, an endless single-player survival challenge.
During a Slayers Club Live livestream, game director Hugo Martin detailed that Slaughter Mode will feature escalating waves of demons across multiple randomly generated arenas. Players will compete to achieve personal best scores in terms of rounds survived and points earned, while also unlocking various cosmetic rewards. Unlike traditional progression modes, this mode focuses on the core combat loop without requiring players to re-earn previously mastered upgrades.
The announcement follows a period of reorganization at id Software, which included staff reductions earlier this year that drew public comments from co-founders John Romero and John Carmack. Despite these changes, the studio continues to support the title through post-launch content updates.
