id Software announces free Slaughter Mode for DOOM: The Dark Ages

id Software has announced ‘Slaughter Mode’, a free endless survival update for the Revelations DLC of DOOM: The Dark Ages. Scheduled to release next month, the mode features increasing waves of demons, bosses, and randomized arenas to ensure varied gameplay sessions.

Game Director Hugo Martin described the mode as a single-player experience where players fight through escalating difficulty to earn cosmetics and high scores. The mode was developed by a strike team to allow players to continue utilizing the combat mechanics and tools introduced in the Revelations expansion, such as the Chain Spear, beyond the main campaign.

Players can redeem earned skulls every ten rounds to unlock cosmetic rewards. The update will also include weekly challenges to encourage replayability. While the specific release date has not been confirmed, the update is expected to arrive in November.
