IDCF Cloud ransomware attack impacts Movable Type services

A ransomware attack on IDCF Cloud has disrupted various services, including the managed Movable Type (MT) Cloud version. The incident caused website outages for clients utilizing the CMS.

To mitigate the impact, Six Apart utilized daily backups stored on Google Cloud to migrate 31 affected servers to the Sakura Cloud environment. The migration process was completed by October 8, 2026, using backup data from October 7.

The incident highlights the risks associated with managed services, where users rely on providers for security updates and backups, potentially leaving them unable to intervene during a service outage.
