Idevi advances $14 million irrigation modernization plan in Río Negro

The Instituto de Desarrollo del Valle Inferior (Idevi) is finalizing bidding documents for a $14 million program funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Managed by the government of Río Negro, the initiative focuses on modernizing the region's water infrastructure.

Approximately $12 million of the total investment is earmarked for irrigation infrastructure. Key projects include interventions in the main lined canal and pumping stations across a 300-kilometer system. Specific works involve the electrification and motorization of gates, increasing the capacity of the main canal, and upgrading a 50-year-old pumping station at kilometer 1,000 to install originally planned drainage pumps.

The program is structured into three main components: irrigation infrastructure, technical assistance and training, and institutional strengthening.
