IDF eliminates Hamas commander involved in October 7 attacks
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of Sabhi Sami Mahmoud Shahatut, a platoon commander in the Hamas military wing, during a strike in the Nuseirat area of central Gaza.
According to the IDF, Shahatut was involved in the October 7 attacks and played a role in holding multiple Israeli hostages in Gaza. He was also documented participating in the November 2023 hostage releases, specifically during the staged handover ceremonies where hostages were transferred to the custody of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Israeli officials stated that Shahatut had recently been working to advance attacks against Israeli troops and civilians, prompting the military to target him to remove the perceived threat. In separate security operations, the IDF also reported neutralizing an individual in southern Gaza who crossed a security line toward Israeli troops and conducted a strike against suspects who entered a structure near the security zone in the Baraashit area.
