IDF reprimands soldier for assault on CNN journalist in West Bank

In March, an Israeli Defense Forces reservist placed CNN photojournalist Cyril Theophilos in a chokehold and forced him to the ground while filming in the village of Tayasir in the occupied West Bank. During the incident soldiers also pointed rifles at the CNN crew and detained them. A military police investigation concluded that physical force was used, but military prosecutors did not pursue criminal charges. The soldier received a formal command reprimand, which will be entered into his personnel file. The IDF chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, suspended all operational activities of the ultra‑Orthodox Netzah Yehuda battalion, dismissed a second soldier involved, and required the unit to undergo additional training before redeployment thirty days later.
