Benjamin Netanyahu launches Likud campaign focused on security

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has launched the Likud party's campaign for the upcoming Israeli legislative elections, scheduled for October 27. His platform centers on national security, framing the contest as a fundamental struggle between the Right and the Left. Netanyahu asserted that only his leadership can guarantee Israel's safety, pledging to complete the mission of overthrowing the Iranian regime and destroying Hezbollah and Hamas.

Netanyahu also criticized political rivals for suggesting territorial concessions, stating that his government has focused on gaining territory in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza rather than ceding it. He faces a competitive race against centrist challenger Gadi Eisenkot, who is supported by various right and left-leaning parties.

In related legal developments, the Israeli Supreme Court unanimously ruled that it is illegal for party delegates to record how specific voters cast their ballots. Additionally, the Likud party has petitioned the Central Elections Committee to block initiatives, such as the 'Fly & Vote' program, which assist Israeli citizens living abroad in returning to the country to vote. Likud argues these efforts constitute illegal 'electoral bribes' by providing financial advantages through discounted travel.
