Czech Republic hit by flooding and record hail, rail line closed

Heavy rain caused the water level to rise over railway tracks near Čkyně, necessitating repairs that are expected to continue until mid‑August. At the same time, the Šumava region experienced hailstones up to 10 cm in size, a phenomenon meteorologists attribute to specific atmospheric conditions. The combined weather events have disrupted rail services and raised concerns for local agriculture and infrastructure.
