Idol group WEST. announces disbandment for September 2026

The seven-member Japanese idol group WEST. has announced it will officially end its activities on September 30, 2026. The decision follows a period of significant internal instability and member departures.

In August, members Shigeoka Daiki and Hamada Takahiro announced their marriages. Shigeoka also revealed the birth of his first child, a disclosure that reportedly caused friction within the group. Reports suggest that members Fujii Ryusei and Kotaki Nozomi were dissatisfied with Shigeoka’s decision to keep his personal life, including his marriage and child, private even from his fellow members and management. This led to Fujii and Kotaki announcing their departure from the group on August 30.

Following these departures, the remaining members attempted to discuss the group's future, but differing visions for their respective careers made continuing as a unit difficult. Nakama Junta expressed feelings of loneliness and uncertainty regarding the group's end but stated he will continue his career as a solo artist. The group, which celebrated its 12th anniversary in April, will conclude its activities after 12 years of service.
