Idris Elba Rules Out James Bond Casting, Studios Seek Younger Actor

Idris Elba told PEOPLE that he was never in contention for the next James Bond, saying, “My name’s not getting thrown out, no way… They want someone younger.” The actor emphasized that his name has not been part of the official race for the role.

Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that the search for a new 007 is underway. Casting director Nina Gold, who worked on Game of Thrones and The Crown, is leading the process. The upcoming film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and scripted by Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders.

Industry sources say the producers are looking for an actor young enough to carry the franchise for several films, with candidates such as Aaron Taylor‑Johnson, Callum Turner and James Norton being mentioned. Elba wishes the team “all the luck in the world” and looks forward to the new Bond’s debut.
