Idris Elba Rules Out James Bond Role as Studios Seek Younger Actor
Actor Idris Elba stated that he has never been in the running to play James Bond, dismissing the long‑standing fan speculation. He said the producers are now looking for a younger performer to take over the iconic British spy.
The franchise’s producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, will hand creative control to Amazon MGM Studios in 2025. The upcoming Bond film is slated to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with a screenplay by Steven Knight. The new movie is not expected to hit cinemas before 2028.
Other actors mentioned as possible candidates include Regé‑Jean Page, Tom Hardy, Aaron Taylor‑Johnson, Henry Cavill and Jack Lowden. Elba previously commented on the racial debate surrounding a Black Bond, describing the discussion as “toxic.”
