IDU continues demolitions for TransMiCable Potosí project

The Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU) has confirmed the continuation of demolitions required for the construction of the TransMiCable Potosí project. This infrastructure is intended to benefit approximately 600 residents in the Ciudad Bolívar district of Bogotá and the neighboring municipality of Soacha.

To date, the IDU reports that 100 properties have been demolished, with an additional 10 currently being prepared for removal. The decision to proceed follows protests by local residents in the Potosí neighborhood, who expressed concerns regarding structural damage to nearby homes, waste accumulation, and increased insecurity.

In response to community demands for a working group to address property titling, appraisals, and housing purchases, the IDU stated that it is implementing measures to mitigate impacts. The entity noted that because land acquisition does not always cover entire blocks, inhabited homes often sit adjacent to demolished lots. To manage these sites, the Consorcio Predios Bogotá is responsible for cleaning and maintenance, while the IDU utilizes mobile surveillance to prevent irregular occupation of the vacant land.
