IECM approves ballots for 2026 youth consultation

The Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) has approved the ballot models for the 2026 Consultation for Children and Adolescents. The ballots are designed with age-appropriate language and formats for three distinct groups: 6 to 9 years old, 10 to 13 years old, and 14 to 17 years old.

For the 6 to 9 age group, the focus will be on environmental care, specifically regarding pollution, waste management, and the protection of nature, flora, and fauna. The 10 to 13 age group will address school coexistence and conditions of school life. The 14 to 17 age group will cover similar themes of coexistence and school life, including topics such as facilities, homework, public transportation, family coexistence, and safety during commutes.

While all groups will use multiple-choice questions, the two older age groups will also have an open-ended question to allow them to express opinions on topics not covered by the provided options. The themes and response options were determined through diagnostic questionnaires and school assemblies conducted at primary, secondary, and upper secondary levels.
