IEPC Jalisco faces scrutiny over irregular payment to former official

The Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute of Jalisco (IEPC) is facing scrutiny following the irregular payment of an indemnity totaling approximately 684,517 pesos to its former Executive Secretary, Christian Flores Garza. Documents indicate that Flores Garza, who held a position of trust, received a net payment of nearly 500,000 pesos on his final day in office, despite legal frameworks prohibiting such extraordinary liquidations for employees in his category.

Claudia Alejandra Vargas Bautista, the provisional president of the IEPC, has distanced herself from the decision, stating that exit agreements are reviewed by the Internal Control Body (Contraloría) rather than the General Council. However, Miguel de la Rosa Figueroa, coordinator of the Morena caucus in the local Congress, argued that the presidency holds a legal obligation to oversee the organization's assets and demand the return of the funds.

Academic Jesús Ibarra from ITESO has also criticized the incident, noting that such irregularities undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral referee just as the 2026-2027 local electoral process begins.
