Jalisco victim assistance fund depletion
Overview
Jalisco deputies are seeking accountability from the state government and the Ministry of Finance following the depletion of the State Fund for Aid, Assistance, and Integral Reparation (FAARI).
Despite approximately 100 days remaining in the year, the 40 million peso fund, managed by the State Executive Commission for Victim Assistance (CEEAV), has run out of resources. This exhaustion affects damage reparations for families of disappeared persons and other crime victims. Francelia Hernández Cuevas, leader of the CEEAV, reportedly advised victim collectives to delay resource requests until the following year.
Legislators from the Special Commission for Attention to Disappeared Persons are demanding information regarding the fund’s accounting and methodology. Deputy Candelaria Ochoa Ávalos noted that the lack of resources is critical, as the fund covers economic support, transportation, and costs associated with searching for human remains.
