Igam completes R$ 62.6 million water fee repayment to watershed committees
The Minas Gerais Institute for Water Management (Igam) has completed the payment of a R$ 62.6 million historical debt related to water usage fees. These funds are designated for Watershed Committees and equivalent basin agency entities.
The total amount covers accumulated values from 2016 to 2019 and was settled through a 72-installment schedule that began in 2020 and concluded in September 2026. The process required coordination between Igam and the State Secretariat of Finance (SEF).
Under state law, 92.5% of the collected fees are allocated to studies, programs, projects, and works outlined in Water Resource Plans. This includes municipal sanitation planning, rural sanitation solutions, spring conservation, water quality monitoring, and flood prevention. The remaining 7.5% covers administrative costs for the managing entities.
