Overview
The Minas Gerais Institute for Water Management (Igam) has finalized the repayment of a R$ 62.6 million historical debt concerning water usage fees. The debt, which accumulated between 2016 and 2019, was settled via a 72-installment schedule that commenced in 2020 and concluded in September 2026.
Coordinated with the State Secretariat of Finance (SEF), the funds are designated for Watershed Committees and equivalent basin agency entities. In accordance with state law, 92.5% of the collected fees are allocated to Water Resource Plans, including projects for rural sanitation, spring conservation, water quality monitoring, and flood prevention.
