Ignacio Ditrén criticizes Dominican government over rising crime
Ignacio Ditrén, a member of the Political Directorate and Secretary of Municipal Affairs for the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, has criticized the Dominican government for its handling of rising crime rates. Ditrén argued that the administration has attempted to minimize the reality of insecurity by relying on official statistics that do not reflect the worsening situation on the ground.
He accused authorities of allowing criminality to escalate and criticized the Ministry of Interior and Police for a prolonged silence regarding the issue. Ditrén noted that criminal activity is no longer confined to specific neighborhoods but is spreading to broader social spaces, citing an incident where individuals were robbed at a hotel pool as an example.
Furthermore, he expressed concern regarding the social impact on youth in low-income sectors, noting that the visible lifestyles of those involved in illicit activities can serve as negative role models when there are no visible legal consequences.
