Iguatemi, Brazil hosts climate adaptation training for municipalities

Municipal officials and technical staff from eight towns in Mato Grosso do Sul gathered in Iguatemi on 13 May for a two‑day training on climate adaptation, basic sanitation and environmental health surveillance. The course, part of the Projeto Rede Clima Municipal, is organized by the Brazilian Association of Municipalities (ABM) and FUNASA, with partners including CESAM, Sanesul and local prefectures.

Speakers included Edson Barbosa, Iguatemi's Secretary of Environment, and ABM Executive Director Eduardo Tadeu, who emphasized cooperation between academic research, technical bodies and municipal governments to develop local Climate Adaptation Plans. The free program aims to help small municipalities structure risk‑assessment, sanitation policies and health protection measures as part of a nationwide rollout that has already visited the South and Southeast and will move to the North and Northeast regions.
