Iguaçu National Park Sets Record Visitor Numbers in First Half of 2026

The Brazilian side of Iguaçu National Park reported 1,064,767 visitors between January and June 2026, the highest half‑year total in its history, representing a 12% increase over the same period last year. June alone attracted 136,679 guests, surpassing the previous monthly record of 124,118 set in 2023 and exceeding the pre‑pandemic 2019 level of 123,533.

Brazilian tourists accounted for the largest share, with 638,182 visitors in the first six months, followed by Argentina (144,052), Paraguay, the United States and Germany. Park officials attributed the surge to expanded visitor experiences—such as sunrise and sunset tours, night visits, astronomy observations and Atlantic Forest trails—and improved air connectivity to Foz do Iguaçu. The growth is also boosting hotels, restaurants, and transport services across the tri‑border region of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.

Park CEO Mario Macedo Junior highlighted that the consecutive record‑breaking months demonstrate a “new moment” for Iguaçu, reinforcing its status as a leading sustainable tourism destination in Latin America and a UNESCO World Heritage natural site.
