Overview

In the first half of 2025, Brazil recorded 5.26 million international arrivals, the second-best total in its history. Air travel accounted for 67% of visitors, marking a historic high for the period. Argentina remained the largest source market, delivering over one million tourists, while significant growth was seen in Asian markets—led by a 55.1% increase from China—and several European countries.

The upward trend continued into 2026. Iguaçu National Park on the Brazilian side of the tri-border reported 1.06 million guests between January and June, a 12% rise over the previous year and the highest half-year total ever recorded. June 2026 specifically set a new monthly record with 136,679 guests. Park CEO Mario Macedo Junior noted that these consecutive records represent a “new moment” for the site, driven by expanded experiences like night visits and astronomy programs.

By July 2026, Brazil reached 5.87 million international arrivals for the year-to-date, again marking the second-highest figure in the country’s history. Air travel remained the primary driver, accounting for 68% of arrivals. While visitors from Argentina and the United States saw declines, growth was robust in strategic markets, including China (+64.5%), Colombia (+33%), and Peru (+18.8%). Embratur president Bruno Reis stated the country is experiencing a period of “solidity in international tourism,” noting that proactive promotion helped offset decreases in land-based travel from Argentina.
