IHSG experiences high volatility amid rising US yields and oil prices

The Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) experienced significant volatility during trading on October 7 and 8, 2026. After a period of gains in early October, the index faced heavy downward pressure. On October 8, the IHSG initially opened with a slight gain of 0.13% to the 6,154 level, but quickly reversed into negative territory. By the end of the second session on October 8, the index dropped sharply by 1.88% to close at 6,031.28.

Market analysts attribute this volatility to several external factors. Rising US Treasury yields, driven by concerns over inflation and US debt, have pressured global equity markets. Additionally, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have caused Brent crude oil prices to remain high, above USD 100 per barrel, which increases inflation risks and impacts investor sentiment in Asia.

Domestic factors, including the release of Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes and Indonesia's consumer confidence reports, are also being closely monitored. While some analysts noted a potential rebound following a bottoming phase in early October, the recent sharp decline highlights ongoing sensitivity to global monetary policy and energy prices.
