IHSS medical services suspended in Honduras until October 12

Medical services at the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS) face significant disruptions as authorities have announced that medical attention and outpatient consultations will not resume until October 12. This delay coincides with the Morazánica Week national holiday, extending the period of service suspension for workers and contributors.

The conflict stems from ongoing labor disputes led by the Medical College of Honduras (CMH). While the Ministry of Health reports that 95% of the 6,480 doctors involved have received their overdue salary payments, the CMH has entered its fifth consecutive week of informative assemblies. The medical union's demands extend beyond unpaid wages to include the reinstatement of dismissed doctors, salary adjustments based on inflation, the centralization of decentralized health networks, and a larger share of the national budget for public health.

Patients currently face a lack of appointments, suspended surgeries, and shortages in essential treatments. This situation contrasts with other public facilities, such as Hospital San Felipe, which have maintained continuous care in critical and oncology areas during the holiday period.
