IHSS to resume medical consultations in Honduras on October 12

Medical consultations at the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS) are scheduled to resume nationwide on Monday, October 12, following five weeks of informative assemblies. The decision follows the IHSS Board of Directors' move to recognize and regulate an agreement reached in April 2025 between the State and the Medical College of Honduras.

A key component of the agreement is the extension of doctors' vacation periods from 18 to 21 days through a special prophylactic rest period. Ricardo Rodas, president of the IHSS Medical Association, noted that the recognition of this benefit had been pending for approximately 18 months.

While IHSS doctors are returning to work, medical professionals affiliated with the Ministry of Health will continue their assemblies due to unpaid wages affecting more than 700 doctors. The IHSS faces the challenge of rescheduling appointments suspended during the strike, particularly in specialized fields such as endocrinology, neurology, and cardiology, where professional availability is limited.
