IIO seeks witnesses in Nanaimo police arrest incident

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia is seeking witnesses following an incident in Nanaimo involving the arrest of a man. According to the RCMP, the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on September 12, after police responded to a call regarding a man refusing to leave a bar on Bastion Street.

During the attempted arrest on the sidewalk, the man sustained an injury related to a broken glass window. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and subsequently released. The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine if the injury meets the threshold of serious harm as defined by the Police Act and if there is a connection to officer action or inaction.

Investigators are requesting that anyone with information or video footage of the arrest contact the IIO via their toll-free witness line or website.
