IIT Delhi student dies after jumping from Lecture Hall Complex

A 31-year-old M.Sc. Physics student, identified as Rishikesh Kumar, died after jumping from the sixth floor of the Lecture Hall Complex at IIT Delhi on Saturday morning. The student, originally from Bihar, was a second-year student associated with the Shivalik Hostel but had recently been living off-campus with his mother.

Police reported that the student entered the campus at approximately 8:00 AM and used an elevator to reach the sixth floor before falling. He was rushed to the IIT Delhi campus hospital, where doctors declared him dead. No suicide note was recovered at the scene, though police have seized his mobile phone for investigation.

Investigators noted that the student had previously received treatment at VIMHANS hospital. While the connection between his medical history and the incident is being examined, the exact motive remains unclear. Forensic and crime teams have inspected the site, and police are reviewing CCTV footage and counseling records to determine the circumstances leading to the death.
