IIT Madras Announces GATE 2027 Schedule, New Robotics Paper and Revised Syllabus
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will organise the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for 2027. The computer‑based exam is set for February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027, with the online application portal expected to open in mid‑August 2026.
A new Robotics and Automation paper has been introduced, while the existing Textile Engineering and Fibre Science paper has been merged into the Engineering Sciences section. The overall syllabus has been updated for the first time in five years to reflect current academic and industry needs. Candidates may elect to appear for one or two papers from approved combinations, and the exam will comprise 30 papers in total.
Scores will remain valid for three years and are used for admission to master's, direct doctoral and doctoral programmes, as well as recruitment by public‑sector undertakings. Security enhancements include integration with DigiLocker and facial authentication for candidate verification.
