ILCA 6 Youth European Championships crowned in Thessaloniki

The 2026 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships and Open European Trophy wrapped up in Thessaloniki, Greece, after a week of racing that saw wind conditions improve from 4‑5 knots to 14 knots, allowing all scheduled races to be completed.

Greek sailor Hermione Ghicas claimed the overall girls’ European title on home waters, while Italy’s Sofia Berteotti won the Under‑17 girls’ crown. In the boys’ division, Czech Republic’s Jiri Tomes secured both the overall and Under‑17 European titles. Brazil’s Erik Scheidt won the men’s Open European Trophy.

New Zealand’s 17‑year‑old Chloe Turner earned a bronze medal, her first under‑19 podium finish, finishing behind Ghicas and Berteotti. Turner’s result highlights New Zealand’s strong recent performance in international youth sailing.
