Ilfov Court rules PNL MPs must vote freely on Veștea government

The Ilfov County Court accepted a petition from supporters of Adrian Veștea and ordered the suspension of the National Political Bureau (BPN) decision of 15 June that had mandated PNL parliamentarians not to support the Veștea government and threatened sanctions for those who did. The court ruled that the measure violated the constitutional prohibition on an “imperative mandate” (Article 69), which obliges legislators to vote according to their conscience rather than party orders. Petitioners also argued that the BPN lacks the authority to impose such sanctions, which are automatically applied without an internal due‑process hearing. The filing listed the 16 PNL MPs involved, including Monica Anisie, Andrei Baciu, Sorin Cîmpeanu and others.

The decision restores the MPs’ freedom to vote on the investiture of the Veștea cabinet, overturning the party’s earlier disciplinary directive.
