Ilia police dismantle organized cannabis plantation
Police in the Ilia region of Greece have dismantled an organized cannabis plantation hidden within an olive grove. The operation, conducted by the Ilia Crime Investigation Department and the Pyrgos Narcotics Department, resulted in the arrest of two men caught entering the site.
The plantation consisted of 320 cannabis plants organized into 17 parallel rows. To avoid detection, the cultivators utilized a sophisticated irrigation system featuring a hose concealed in the vegetation that connected to a river via a gasoline-powered water pump located under a bridge.
Authorities seized 5.35 grams of cannabis, a gasoline water pump, a telescopic sprayer, a plastic sprayer, a metal rake, and plastic buckets. Police estimate that the potential illegal profit from the harvest and distribution of the drugs would have ranged between 320,000 and 480,000 euros. The two suspects face felony charges for drug cultivation and possession.
