Iliana Sánchez proposes mental health prevention in Mexico City schools

Deputy Iliana Sánchez Chávez has proposed a legislative initiative to expand the prevention and timely detection of mental health disorders in public secondary schools within Mexico City. The proposal seeks to reform the Mental Health Law of the Federal District to prioritize the emotional well-being of children and youth.

Sánchez emphasized that urban transformation must extend beyond physical infrastructure to include the integral well-being of citizens. The initiative responds to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), which indicates that one in seven young people aged 10 to 19 experiences a mental disorder. Additionally, national data from INEGI shows that 22.5% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 exhibit signs of anxiety, while 12.3% show signs of depression.
